Altered sleep paterns
OK, so let me get this right.......people who have depression and if they are deprived of sleep it can cause quick relief of depression. So what about people who can't or are deprived of sleep on a daily basis? Does that mean that we are less likely to be depressed? Altered Sleep Patterns so how does sleep and depression go together? So if you don't get enough sleep you have a higher risk of suffering from depression. but in our book it says that sleep deprivation can relieve depression. I was already begining to think that i would never get depressed because i never get my full 8 hrs of sleep and now I'm reading that i have a higher risk of becoming depressed! This is scary.....so do you think all the sleep that we students, parents and athletes and full-time job holders are being deprived is worth it? By looking at the videos do you think its only a matter of time that we will become depressed sooner or later because the lack of sleep. Personally i don't believe it's true.....there are people in my family that i know that have never got a full 8 hrs sleep and they have never been better. I think it just depends on the person and how you adjust to your way of living.

This is interesting and I am glad you pointed that out. I don't get an average of 8 hours but close to 6 and 7. I am told that I am a very excited and full of life girl. Since you mentioned depression, I do get a little depressed now and then. I think its just in the cycle of life. In other words, I think this is something to think about.
ReplyDeleteWell i agree it has to depend on how the person functions. I mean i get a bit cranky if i don't have my sleep unlike my roommate. She only gets about 4 hours of sleep sometimes and she is the happiest person. And she is not putting up a front. She really does feel good throughout the day , with coffee. She absolutely hates alarm clocks and get cranky with that rather than less sleep. However, unlike her I have gone through some extreme sadness due to a death in my family so that might have something to do with.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you as well, but at the same time, not getting enough sleep can have an impact on you physically, mentally, and emotionally. For example, I haven't been getting enough sleep lately for the past two weeks (between 4-6hrs a night). Lately I still can't figure out whether I'm tired or sleepy, but I still try to get the job done each day. Since I found out that the ONLY free time I do have out of this week is Sunday, I'm probably going to rest, almost hibernate. I believe that when it comes to situations like these, the last thing you need is to put in all that hard work and in the end, wound up crashed and burned. That is why they tell you to put it, at least a minimum of 7 to 8 hours of sleep.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, but I believe that depression happens after a life chaning moment and usually sleep doesn't occur after that because the person is consistently thinking about the traumatic event in their life.
ReplyDeleteThat's how I believe that the depression is more related to sleep.
I know personally stress and not getting enough sleep does hurt my "old" body but I do get through it. Depression is more of a traumatic experience and like the readings stated once over the inital set of depression the next cases of depression just happen and then the sleepless nights begin again.
