What is stress?

Have you ever asked yourself what is stress?  Stress is the nonspecific response of the body to any demand upon it. And then you say ah what? We are exposed to stress everyday  one example is  as college students that are married and have a full time job it is very stressful because we cannot concentrate on just one thing at a time such as school work or just on your full time job.  Because there are other important factors that we have to deal with and it is very stressful trying to complete all of the tasks that one takes on. By having all these stressors in our body it causes us to become ill and even depressed because we have no time for ourselves to heal of whatever wounds or sicknesses that we may have. People who say they never have stress are simply not telling the truth we all have stress. Have you ever lost your appetite or didn’t feel like doing anything? That is a symptom of one having stress there are different symptoms for different people depending on ones’ situation. In my life as a college student it has been a long and hard road but It will finally end soon (at least for a while). But I have had more stress than others because I have to deal with school work my full and part-time jobs and last but not least my family which I try to spend the most time and enjoy my little boys. They are the ones who help me deal with all the stress that I have but in the long run it will all be worth it. I strongly believe that hard work always pays off even with stress.

  1. Wow, Rob I can totally understand how stressed you might be. Being a student athlete is just as stressful. Don't get me wrong, traveling is super fun but missing class is the tough part. I know you mention that you have a family of your own, that I cannot relate to but I can relate to work stress. To top things off, I too have a job. Overall, I think we can all agree that being a college student is just plain stressful. Wouldn't it be nice if we could be young forever!?

  2. Stress sucks (excuse the language) but its true. College to some may not seem as something that is stressful or that requires a lot of effort but they are SO wrong. College makes up most of the stress in my life and i dont have a part-time job or family. Kuddos to you Rob and Ashley! After this semester I'm due for a massage anyone else agree?

  3. Rob, Ashley, I don't know how you do it. I agree that college is very stressful. My sleep schedule gets all messed up, my head hurts from all the studying, and I get dizzy sometimes also. I get so stressed because of all the worrying about preparing for grad school and I don't even have a job or kids. So kudos to ya'll.

  4. I think it's true, I mean you might think us girls, basically people between the ages of 18-22 still don't understand the real world yet, but I think it depends on what a person is going through rather on their age. As for me, I might just be 20 years old, but the fact that I have to balance school, work, and now my grandma in a temporary nursing home, you might think my stress reliever is when I get home. Well surprisingly, I'd rather be in school than to be at home. Makes you wonder doesn't it? Then again you might think you know what I'm talking about, but, you might be sadly mistaken.
Though I think Stress as a Problem, I also think of it as a Motivator. I tend to procrastinate on my work, which is another stress of mine, but most of the time, I tend to do better.
In the end, Stress will never go away, either let it control you or use it to your advantage.

  5. Robert i think it's completely true with the stress level of being a full time student, parent, and employee. I totally feel your pain as I go through the same thing. Anyone else that says there is no stress is lying because even though they may not have all the we have in common they have their own stress.
Ashley as well being an athlete and a student can be overwhelming and it really depends how each one handles it but I'll tell all of you since the chapter on sleep I have made it a point to sleep a little more than my four hours that I use to.
